Note: For online exams, the Google Classroom class you will register for the Foreign Language I (IMU011) course will be used. Google Classroom class information will be shared with you by the course instructor. Students who have not received an e-mail until the exam day should report their situation to yabancidiller.uzem@medeniyet.edu.tr, stating their name, surname and department.

About IMU011- IMU012 Courses and Exemption Exams:

- In accordance with the article 5, clause (ı), of Higher Education Law, numbered 2547, foreign language courses at higher education institutions are within the scope of compulsory course and this course is programmed and applied at least for two semesters. The common compulsory foreign language at our university in English and comprises English education at the basic level (CEFR A1/A2). Also, these courses are taught through distance education.

- Students who have received the success grade (60 - CC- and above as a letter grade) from the courses Foreign Language I and Foreign Language II exemption exams specified within the framework of our university's 'Undergraduate Education Regulation' will receive Foreign Language I (English I) (IMU011) to be given in the Fall semester and Foreign Language II (English II) to be given in the Spring semester) (IMU012) courses are exempt.

- Students who want to be exempt from IMU011 and IMU012 courses must attend both sessions and get a passing grade (60-CC). There are no make-ups for exams for any reason.

- Students who are successful in the exemption exams have the right to waive their exemption rights and continue classes, if they wish, by submitting a petition within the framework of codes of practice which are to be determined later.

Students who can take IMU011-IMU012 Exemption Exams:

- All first year students who are placed in departments where the medium of instruction is Turkish,

- Students who registered for the first year in previous years and suspended their registration without taking the course,

- First year students who took preparatory education at a different university and enrolled in one of the Turkish departments of the school through undergraduate transfer,

- Students who will continue to the first grade after failing the optional preparatory program

Important Notes:

- Regardless of the university, students who have taken these courses before, who have failed these courses in previous years or who want to raise their grades, who are studying in English-speaking departments or who are enrolled in the preparatory program cannot take the exemption exams.

- You are not exempt from these courses with exam scores such as TOEFL/ IELTS/ YDS/ YÖKDİL or preparatory school pass mark from other universities.

- Students who have successfully completed the optional preparatory program and will continue to the first grade do not need to take the exemption exams. The Foreign Language I (English 1) and Foreign Language II (English 2) course grades of these students will be entered into the system as AA in accordance with the Istanbul Medeniyet University Foreign Language Preparatory Education and Examination Directive (Article 10/7) dated September 18, 2023.

- For all current announcements, the School of Foreign Languages ​​website and the e-mail address in UBYS should be followed frequently.

- Our institution reserves the right to make changes in the academic calendar and exam practices. Therefore, our institution is not responsible for the plans students make for the exam week.

About the Procedure of Exams:

- You must register to the class with your name, surname and department name using the Google Classroom code that will be shared with you by the course instructor before the exam.

- If you receive a warning that the class quota is full, you should contact the course instructor. The new class code will be sent to you.

- If you have problems viewing the exam after the exam starts, try refreshing the page.

- If you see the questions in Turkish, right-click on the page and select "Translate to English".

- You must complete both exams within the time given to you. You can go back to the questions and make the necessary changes to your answers during the exam period.

- At the end of the exam, click on the "Submit Quiz" tab. Otherwise, it will not be possible for your exams to be evaluated.

- You have 1 (ONE) entry right for the exemption exams. You will not have a right to redo the exams if you click on the "Submit Quiz" tab or if your time expires. Once you submit the exams, you cannot return to the exams or make any changes.

- Your exams may appear "not submitted" as Google Classroom assignments, but since they are submitted via Google Forms, at the end of the exams you will see the message "Exam is over." "Exam results will be published in UBYS in the coming days."

Important Notes:

- You can use your desktop (PC), laptop or mobile phone for the English I-II Exemption Exams. You are expected to take the necessary precautions against internet connection problems and/or power outages during the exam. For this, if possible, we recommend that you prepare a 3G, 4.5G connection with a desktop computer (PC) with a high internet connection speed or at an appropriate height and/or a fully charged laptop and/or mobile phone. All responsibility in this regard will belong to the student.

- During and after the exam process, no written and/or visual content regarding the "Foreign Language (English I-II) Exemption Exams" can be recorded, printed, copied, screenshotted, etc. It cannot be copied, modified, distributed, or used on any platform, including print and social (digital) media. The exams of students who are found to have violated the rules will be deemed invalid. All responsibility in this regard belongs to the student.
