Information about Foreign Language I-II Exemption Exam


Information about the exam!

  • CANVAS platform will be used for the online exam.
  • You must gain access to CANVAS platform through which you will take the exam on https://canvas.instructure.com/register
  • To register Canvas, click on the “I am a student” tab and then fill in the information on the “Student Signup” window. Remember to enter the code shared by your instructor into the “Join Code” section. Also, you must enter your full name, email account and create a password to log in your CANVAS account later. Upon filling in the required info, click on “Start Learning.”
  • After logging into your CANVAS account, you will see such tabs as “Account,” “Dashboard,” and “Courses.” Click on the “Courses” tab and then click on the “Quizzes” tab. You will see your online exams there.
  • English I (IMU011) Exemption exam consists of 20 questions. The duration of the exam is 35 minutes. Similarly, English II (IMU012) Exemption Exam consists of 20 questions and the duration of the exam is 35 minutes. After English I Exemption Exam is over, a 5-minute break will be given and English II Exemption Exam will start right after it. It is compulsory to take both of the exams.   You are supposed to complete the exams in the allotted time.
  • Make sure you join CANVAS with your Full Name and it includes your middle name if you have one. Otherwise, your exams cannot be evaluated.
  • You can use your desktops, laptops and mobile phones for English I-II Exemption Exam.
  • You are expected to take measures yourself to mitigate the risks of connection problems and/or power outage. For this, we recommend you use a computer (PC) with a fast internet connection speed and/or fully charge your laptops and mobile phones, making 3G or 4.5G mobile wireless networks available, if possible. Students are deemed responsible for the issues mentioned above.
  • Important: If you want to use your computer or desktop, make sure the time is set correctly on it (You need to set the time zone of your device you are using and your CANVAS account as "Istanbul." You can change the time zone of your CANVAS account by clicking “Account,” “Settings,” and “Edit Settings”). If you happen to see the exam questions in Turkish (or any other language), click right and click on the option “Translate to English”.
  • You can go back and make the necessary changes during your exam.
  • At the end of the exam, students need to click on “submit quiz” button to finish it. It is not possible to evaluate the exam unless they do so.
  • Please note that you can take the exam once.
  • After you click on “submit quiz” or when the time is up, you won’t have any right go back or make any changes.
  • During or after the “Foreign Language (English I-II) Exemption Exam”, written/ visual content related to the exam cannot be copied (recorded, printed, photocopied or screenshot, etc.) by any means. The exams of the students who are detected violating the rules will not be evaluated. Students are deemed responsible for the issues mentioned above.
  • Important: Check “spam” folder if you did not receive the email. If you have questions and problems or you cannot have access to the code, you can e-mail us on yabancidiller.uzem@medeniyet.edu.tr adding your name, surname, student number, and department.
