Faculty of Law

Our Law Faculty was established with the Act founding Istanbul Medeniyet University in 2010. The undergraduate education (LL.B) with 80 registered students commenced in the academic year of 2016-2017. LL.M programs with thesis or non-thesis in Medical Law, Public Law, Private Law and Information Technology Law are taught both in Turkish and English. We offer Ph.D. programs in Medical Law and Private Law. Our Law Faculty's mission is to train pioneering minds with the ability to observe, research and reason and to provide competence in at least one foreign language and to have problem-solving skills. Our vision is to be a distinctive Law Faculty with its scientific quality and international character.

The learning method that our Faculty adopts is to have a limited number of undergraduate students and a great amount of practices and research. This method ensures that our students are better prepared for their legal career. Although the LL.B degree is mainly taught in Turkish, our Faculty highlights the importance of foreign language education. Most of our academicians are competent to teach in at least one foreign language. Two research centers, namely the Medical Law Research Unit and the Comparative Private Law Unit, were established within the scope of the Civilization Studies Center of our University. Our Law Faculty gives importance to conduct research in current developments and transferring these researches to the students in order to improve the quality of education. Our Law Faculty offers a variety of student clubs and societies that any of our students could participate. The student clubs and societies enable our students to take part in social life by organizing events such as visits to official institutions for instance the Constitutional Court and the Turkish Grand National Assembly, panels and conferences under the supervision of academic advisors. During career days, practitioners and students are brought together. Our Law Faculty cooperates with various universities in both Europe and Asia in education and training processes so that our students can graduate with having an international vision.

A great number of both national and international publications mainly books and articles have been published and continue to be publishing by the academic staff of our Law Faculty. 'Medeniyet Law Review' issued by our Law Faculty is a bi-annually published Journal accepting articles, book or case reviews written in four languages. Our Law Faculty attaches great importance to both national and international organizations. Many conferences and conversations were held in our Law Faculty in 2020 with the participation of our student clubs. It is also planned to organize symposiums and congresses in every branches of Law, as we did in the IV. International Medical Law Congress in which international participation was extremely wide.

Our Law Faculty cooperates with a diversity of universities both in Europe and Asia in order to train students to have international vision. By means of the Erasmus+ Program, our students can pursue one or two terms of their degree in abroad. In this context, our Law Faculty has become a member of the European Association of Law Faculties. A Cooperation Protocol of Education was signed between our Law Faculty and the Yaroslav Mudryi National Law University of Ukraine. An agreement has been reached with the Malaya University of Malaysia to exchange faculty members and students, and to organize Turkey-Malaysia Law Days once a year.
