Our Law School held a conference on March 6, 2024 titled: " 100th Anniversary of the Republic: Women" as part of International Women's Day. The conference was held open to Public.
The program first began by harp artist and manufacturer Zeynep Öykü Uca's harp recital. Then, Uca gave her speech on the history of harp production, the importance of harp music and harp education, and its contribution to art.
Then Prof. Zeynep Özlem Üskül Engin from Galatasaray University Faculty of Law, in her speech titled "Enlightened Women from Tanzimat to the Republic", focused on the impact of the political and sociological changes in the Ottoman Empire on women and the contribution of women to many areas such as education and social development from the first period of the Republic to the present.
Next, the speaker Ms. Aylin Olsun discussed the topic of "Women's Empowerment and Networking". In her speech, Ms. Olsun focused on the contribution of women's empowerment to all areas of life, women labor force participation and the women's unrepresentation in business life.
Then Asst. Prof. Feyza Akınerdem from Boğaziçi University Department of Sociology presented the topic "Women from Home to Screen in a Mediatized World", which deals with the impact and reflection on society of the important television series and programs of the period, as well as the Asmalı Konak series, which was the subject of her master's thesis.
The last speech was from our Faculty member Dr. Zeynep Ardıç. She talked about the effects of women’s poverty on family, society and country in her speech titled "Women's Poverty and Its Reflections".
The program ended after a question and answer session.
