The sixth meeting of of the Law School Seminars of 2023-24 Academic Year was held at the meeting hall on 7th floor of Block C at North Campus, on December 26th, 2023.
PhD. Seval Kılıç, a member of the Legal History Department presented her paper titled "Legal Reasons for Dissolution of Marriage in 16st Century Istanbul."
PhD. Kılıç Dr. Began with clarifying the basic concepts such as “rici talak, bain talak, muhalea” used when expressing the dissolution of marriage on legal grounds. PhD.Kılıç explained the these reasons by giving examples from cases in the light of the findings she obtained as a result of her research on “kadi records.” Due to the demographic structure of the period and the structure of the judicial organization, the difference between the trial procedure of that period and today's procedure attracted a lot of attention. In the meeting, which was held interactively with the intense interest of students and academic staff, legal developments on issues such as women's rights and equality between men and women in the context of family law and marriage were evaluated through real people and events.
After questions and answers, the program ended with bagels and tea served.
