Istanbul Medeniyet University student groups organised the “Moonlight Ramadan Entertainment” aiming to keep the cultural heritage of the Ottoman Period alive. The event took place on the Valide Sultan Ship on March 22, 2025, with the collaboration of Üsküdar Municipality, aimed to bring the lively and colorful atmosphere of traditional Ramadan evenings to the present day.
The event, which hosted 250 to 300 participants, attracted great interest from students from Istanbul Medeniyet University, Marmara University, Istanbul University and Fatih Sultan Mehmet University.
The event was brought to life in collaboration with student groups from different universities. AS following; Art History Community, Information Community, Theater Community, Entrepreneurship Community, Development Law Community, Project Community and Film Workshop Community from Istanbul Medeniyet University; Young Good Club from Istanbul University, Art History Club from Marmara University and Science History and Debate Clubs from Fatih Sultan Mehmet Foundation University.
The program, which highlighted the cultural and social dimensions of Ramadan, featured examples of traditional Ottoman entertainment. Participants were served food and drinks specific to the period, while Ramadan nights of the past were recreated with storyteller shows, Karagöz-Hacivat plays and various interactive activities.
The event emphasized that the culture of Ramadan points not only to a religious but also a socio-cultural memory, and emphasized the importance of passing this memory on to future generations. This meaningful meeting, where participants spent time together and experienced the spirit of sharing and solidarity, offered both a nostalgic journey and an opportunity for cultural awareness.
The event, which kept our cultural heritage alive by reminding us of the Ramadan tradition of the Ottoman period, was appreciated by the participants and once again revealed the importance of unity and culture-based events.
