The event titled “The Latest Situation and Human Rights Violations in Gaza” organized by the Islamic Law Studies Club of Istanbul Civilization University was held on April 9, 2025 in the Red Hall of the Central Classroom Building, open to external participants.
The event began with the viewing of the documentary titled “Jerusalem: We Will Stay Here” directed by Director and Humanitarian Aid Coordinator Tülay Gökçimen.
The documentary provides participants with an in-depth account of the challenges in the region by revealing the human rights violations in Jerusalem and Palestine. Touching on the historical and religious importance of Jerusalem, Gökçimen sheds light on the Palestinian people's struggle for freedom in his documentary and emphasizes the human rights violations in the region and the pressures on Jerusalem and the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
Following the screening, participants had the opportunity to have a conversation with Tülay Gökçimen. In the conversation, Gökçimen shared her experiences during the documentary production process and drew attention to the human rights violations in Palestine and the difficulties experienced by children in the region. The event became interactive with participants' questions and Gökçimen's answers.
During the event, 6 signed books were given away to the participants through a raffle from Gökçimen's book "If I Shoot a Documentary". Participants participated in the raffle with the numbers given throughout the event and the lucky winners received their books by signing them.
At the end of the program, Spiritual Counseling and Guidance Specialist Yasemin Zeydan thanked Tülay Gökçimen and presented her with a gift. The event aimed to raise public awareness by announcing the current situation and human rights violations in Palestine.
The event, which provided a great learning opportunity for students studying on the subject such as the Law and Political Science Faculties, provided the opportunity to learn first-hand about developments in the fields of war law and international law. The event ended by drawing attention to the importance of making Palestine and Gaza's voice heard, as well as learning about current issues.
