In order to reveal the potential contribution of Islamic law to contemporary legal processes and to discuss the issue of arbitration in a multidimensional manner within this framework, a seminar titled “Arbitration in Islamic Law: The Possibility of Utilizing Islamic Law in Arbitration According to Turkish Legal Legislation” was organized by the Islamic Law Studies Club of Istanbul Civilization University.
The seminar, organized within the scope of the second session of the Basic Islamic Law Education Seminars series, was held on April 14, 2025, in the Red Hall of the North Campus Central Classroom Building. Moderated by Dr. Lecturer Cemal Kalkan from our University's Faculty of Law, the seminar featured Res. Asst. Muhammed Fatih Ünlü from Necmettin Erbakan University Ahmet Keleşoğlu Faculty of Theology as a speaker.
In the event, which was held in two sessions, information was given about the basic principles of arbitration in Islamic law and the relationship and integration possibilities between arbitration practices in Islamic law and arbitration practice in Turkish legal legislation were discussed.
Following the presentation, in-depth discussions were held with the participants on the potential contribution of the ancient heritage of Islamic law to today's legal system. The program, with its theoretical and practical dimensions, offered participants a rich perspective from an interdisciplinary perspective that brought together the fields of law, history and theology.
